Self-care may be different for everyone, since our needs or areas of our life that need more support can vary depending on our circumstance, but for the purposes of this article we will refer to self-care as "the actions that an individual might take in order to reach optimal physical and mental health".

Unfortunately, ignoring our health and well-being can lead to some serious consequences including burn-out at work or home, illness or other physical health issues such as weight gain or loss, and mental health concerns, just to name a few. This month we will explore much more on the topic of self-care so stay tuned for more content throughout the  month of July!

Self-Care Tips

Now that we know the importance of making a conscious effort to maintain our self-care, let's hear from some extremely talented wellness experts who know a thing-or-two about self-care and how to promote holistic health in your life:

Slow down...

Allie, a teacher and self-care Evangelist from BohemianNation.com, suggests:

"Slow down. Take longer to eat your meals, do breathing exercises, make space for mindfulness and reflection, check in with your body daily and see what it needs. Not only will this calm your sympathetic nervous system (that wants you to stay in fight-or-flight), you'll also feel more present and relaxed as you move through your day".

Fiorenza, a NLP & Life Coach from FiorenzaRossini.com, suggests:

"With all the to-do lists and responsibilities, we often forget to prioritise ourselves and our own wellbeing. But how are we expecting to achieve and complete all these things if the main tool we have (i.e. ourselves) isn't well rested and taken care of? Think about your car.. you know

Prioritize self-care...

that maintenance is mandatory if you want to safely travels to all your destinations all year round... It's the same for you! Taking time for yourself isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity. What simple things you love doing can you add to your weekly schedule? It's not more difficult than asking this question".

Be a 3-Legged Stool...

In this article we hear from some extremely talented wellness experts who know a thing-or-two about self-care and how to promote holistic health in your life. #selfcare #wellness #mentalhealth
Jason, a Therapist and Sleep Hygienist from TheSleepHygienist.com, says:

"I tell my clients that there is a 3-legged stool of self-care. These legs are getting adequate sleep, getting regular exercise, and having a well-balanced and healthy diet. Each leg is equally important for the stool to stand (read: good self-care). None of these three things are very sexy or exciting, but they are certainly vital.   If someone is lacking in all three, a major lifestyle change is in order. Most people do fine in one or more areas. My advice
is to start with the one you are "worst" at and make intentional changes to improve".

Brianna, a Health, Business and Purpose Coach from MadeWell345.com, suggests:

"Each day, take a moment to pause and ask yourself what's one thing you can do to care for your holistic health (mind, body, soul, etc) today. Then focus on that ONE THING and do it. Set out in your mind to make it more important than anything else on your schedule".

A sincere thank you to all of the wellness experts who have taken the time to share their self-care tips for this article. I am endlessly amazed at the amount of talent and knowledge that fellow bloggers and wellness experts are able to share with others and the tips shared for this article are no exception. I hope you visit each of their sites to find out more about their wellness practices.

For myself, I have recently started to focus more on my own self-care and well-being since I believe as wellness providers, it's very important to take care of ourselves so that we can continue to care and support others in our personal and professional lives. My self-care tip would be to explore holistic and natural ways to care for you health and well-being, such as through increasing your fruit and vegetable intake, as well as exploring the many benefits that essential oils can have on your physical and emotional well-being.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to share your own self-care tips in the comments below!

Great collection of advice! I've been practicing taking 10 minutes in silence every morning to set my intentions for the day and visualize them happening, then I listen to a podcast while cooking and eating breakfast. I swear off social media, emails, and clients until after those things are done! I've definitely noticed an increase in my levels of productivity after taking time for myself in the morning.

This is such a great list! I really like that the idea of slowing down is a theme across a lot of these...everyone moves so fast nowadays. :0)

Yes, I noticed that theme as well! It's such a busy world, it can be a good reminder to slow things down. Thanks for your comment, Sarah!
