In a previous article on the blog, we focused on how to manage your gut health and how poor digestive health can be connected to poor mental health. The following guest article will focus on a specific way to promote health and well-being in your own life, including keeping a healthy gut health, with the use of flaxseed.

Flaxseed: Your Secret Smooth Operator

Everyone has experienced stomach pains. Sometimes they come to haunt you as simple grumblings of hunger while other times they may be intense and gut-wrenching. Many sit through this pain, unsure as to what could be the problem or too afraid to try chemically-created medicines that could end up with more harm than good. However, there is a simple and natural cure for many stomach-churning ailments.

Why use flaxseed?
Flaxseed has many benefits for human health. It is tightly packed with essential nutrients that work wonders. Lots of people prefer the natural crop over chemically created pharmaceuticals, which not only have various side effects but can also take a toll on the consumer’s wallet.

What is flaxseed?
Flaxseed is a crop that is cultivated in many parts of the world. Due to its high amount of fiber, it would be very tempting to use it as an additive to our diet or everyday lifestyle. The seed comes from a flowery crop that is not only better for the environment,  but is pleasant to look at.

What is the nutritional value of flaxseed?
Flaxseed is regarded by nutritionists one of the most nutritious substances ever known to people. Its amazing properties are attributable to various nutrients tightly packed in this crop, including but not limited to Omega-3 and fiber. Health benefits of Flaxseed range from anticancer to anti-oxidative, which can drastically impact not only the health of the consumer, but also can positively influence the health of their offspring and later generations.

How much is flaxseed?
Unlike other products, flaxseed is cheap and can be found at nearly every health store, which makes it a perfect “health provider” all through the year. Whereas a prescription drug requires a visit to the doctor, a written prescription, a visit to the pharmacy, and the purchase of the drugs, flaxseed only requires a trip to the grocery store or, for those who do not desire even that much work, a good online grocer that will ship directly to the consumer’s household.

How is flaxseed different from other products?
Other alternatives to flaxseed are not as beneficial as the crop. Laxatives and medicines contain a combination of chemicals which could be very well described as a pig in a poke, whereas flaxseed is grown, harvested, packaged and all of this is taking place naturally, in full sight of the entire world, yielding a huge nutritional product with a whole bunch of trace mineral benefits.

Flaxseed has a pleasant “nutty” taste, so adding it to your diet will be easier and way more pleasant than stuffing yourself with products having a “medicine” taste. Many prefer this alternative, as the useful “flax remedy” has same sensory characteristics as those required of fresh flaxseed.

The versatility of flaxseed sets him apart from other ordinary products. Since it does not come in the form of a pill, it is much easier to add this crop to foods, baked goods, and the consumer’s everyday diet.

How can you incorporate Flaxseed Into Your Diet?
Of all flaxseeds therapeutic benefits it is digestive virtues that are most precious ones. For those who have difficulty breaking down the food that they eat, or absorbing the nutrients they need, flaxseed can help tremendously.

There are many strategies that people use to incorporate flaxseed into their daily diet. It may be difficult to chow down on the bland crop alone, so adding it as an embellishment to many meals can be highly beneficial to the consumer and allow them to receive the benefits of the food without even noticing the difference in their diet.

Due to the nutty taste that flaxseed has, it is easy to incorporate it into many meals. The taste will act as more of an embellishment of the food’s flavor rather than a strange, healthy add-in.

Easy, non-bake meals include:
  • Cereal
  • Yogurt
  • Condiments

In addition to non-bake items, flaxseed is an excellent add-in to baked goods. It adds a hearty flavor that compliments most recipes. The moisture in the products increases, giving them a fresh, soft taste that any baker will relish.

For those who follow a strict vegan diet, flaxseed can act as an egg substitute. This makes for an easy and accessible replacement so that you wouldn't think that it would work. Moreover, other substitutes for eggs, such as applesauce and bananas, leave a taste in the baked good that may not combine well with the pastry’s original intended taste. Flaxseed, however, provides a nutty taste that combines perfectly with any pastry.

How does Flaxseed cope with Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
With all of the health benefits that flaxseed provides, it is no wonder the crop is good remedy for irritable bowel syndrome. The benefits of flaxseed focus mostly on the stomach area and the digestive system helping break down the food you eat and allowing smooth bowel movement.

To those who have abdominal pains, bloating and other unpleasant symptoms of IBS, flaxseed is a great helper that removes the uncomfortable sensations of any kind, since it acts as a careful laxative and an effective smoothing agent.

By eating flaxseed and substituting it for many otherwise unhealthy products, including eggs and flour, not only will you fix your stomach problems but it will surely improve your overall health.
