Although I have several paintings and prints displayed on my walls, these were generic photos that are probably in many other homes around the globe being a mass-produced product. I was very interested in a quality product that I could personalize my walls with, and eager to try out the services through ​BestCanvas.ca - all in the comfort of my home, since the process is done completely online.

As I began the process of ordering my canvas, I learned that each canvas is manually stretched onto a sturdy spruce frame and comes with custom edge design. I decided to choose the folded edge which meant that my photo on the canvas is stretched to fit the frame perfectly. This creates a neat seamless feel to the photo by wrapping the image around the frame of the canvas. There are several other edge design options you can select, as well.

I was also happy to see the attention to detail in that each canvas is printed using solvent-free HP inks resistant to UV damage. This essentially means that you can display the canvas in a sunny location without worrying about the colour fading over time. I discovered that the printing process focuses on high-resolution results using specially certified canvas.

The other decisions I had to make during the checkout process was to choose the format including landscape or square, as well as the dimensions. There were many different size options to choose from and after considering the layout of my selected photo I decided on a landscape 24 x 16 inch design for my canvas.

After a very short amount of time, my order was complete and my canvas was on it's way to be carefully printed and shipped to my door. The process was so simple and I was super excited to see the finished product!

Let me share a bit of background from the photo selection for my canvas. I really wanted to add a momento to my space that would evoke a new memory every time I looked at it. 

I grew up in the Okanagan Valley which used to be famous for it's plentiful orchards of apple trees but in the last 20 years vineyards have taken over the hillsides of the valley. The Okanagan has started to become known as the 'Napa Valley' of Canada, and for good reason - we create some seriously high quality wine. Some of the area is also semi-arid which is a great environment for growing grapes.

​Another incredible feature of the valley is the sprawling 135 kilometre lake that is home to the Ogopogo - a lake monster that has eluded visitors and locals alike. Over the years I have spent a lot of time in or around Okanagan Lake - swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing - so many of my memories are connected to this majestic lake.

As you can see, the photo I chose for my canvas features both a vineyard (Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards in Peachland, to be exact) and Okanagan Lake. This combination makes for a fantastic personalized canvas for my wall and achieves that sense of nostalgia I was looking for when selecting my photo.
