|One change I have noticed since staying at home a lot more in the past month is that I am constantly looking around my home and thinking of ideas to create a cozier, more inviting space. I find myself asking "How can I update this space to reflect an environment that encourages self-care and peacefulness but with a minimal budget?". Depending on the space you have to work with, it may be a lot easier than you think. I wanted to start in the bedroom since this is where we spend a lot of our time at home - sleeping, snoozing, reading, meditating, and so much more. This space deserves some TLC when it comes to creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. This article will explore some ideas around organizing your bedroom and introducing new and already owned items into the space so that the next time you walk into your bedroom you feel a sense of ease and peace wash over you. And let's face it, we all need that feeling right now! Please note: This article does not contain healthcare or therapeutic advice. Getting Started A great place to start any new project is to take everything away from it's usual place. So that means emptying drawers and closets, removing items from the walls or from the tops of dressers or bedside tables. Depending on your belongings (or the last time you Marie Kondo'd your bedroom) this may be overwhelming. If you are finding yourself feeling anxious or overwhelmed during the process, consider taking regular breaks and spending time in another room or going for a walk around your neighbourhood. You could also do one section of the room at a time but it can helpful to work with a blank slate. Once you have everything removed from it's usual place, begin sorting through your belongings and consider which items you would like to keep (really think about this and how each item will give purpose in your life moving forward), donate, or toss. This can also be a bit of lengthy process, and may also take you down memory lane if you discover items that have been at the back of cupboards for many years. The Layout Once you have gone through your items and decided which ones will be returning to the bedroom and removing the rest, it's time to take a look at the layout of the room. A great way to re-imagine a new layout of the room is to draw the outline of the room from a birds eye view on a piece of paper. Start with the walls, windows and closet. Consider different layouts of the furniture or pictures and jot that down. You may also wish to consider updating your bedroom set. A fresh look to your room buy purchasing a new bed frame and memory foam mattress can do wonders for creating an environment that helps you to relax and feel as comfortable, as possible. My own decor style is more rustic, but choosing a dresser and matching nightstands to go with your design inspiration is key. Another idea is to create a feature wall by painting it a particular colour or choosing a wallpaper that you enjoy. You can get peel-and-stick wallpaper so even if you're renting it won't damage the wall and you can easily remove it when you move. Add a photo wall by framing photos or your own artwork in a tasteful layout on your feature wall. Add Accents Once you have the layout setup you will want to bring in the items that you sorted through such as your clothes and other items. Make sure to also add any finishing touches such as comfortable throw pillows and a soft throw blanket for the bed, a scented candle or aromatherapy accessories and some greenery. Take a look at the changes you have made so far. Are you happy with the layout and the design elements so far? Is anything missing that could bring you more joy or contentment? You deserve a space that not only reflects your personality but also brings you a sense of comfort and restfulness. Other tips for turning your bedroom into a self-care haven:
