Essential Oils: For Cleaning

|When I first started learning about essential oils and their uses, I was most interested in how they could be used to replace so many of the chemicals I was using on a daily basis in my own home. I went around and did an inventory check in my kitchen and bathroom since I hadn't really thought too much about what I used on my surfaces to clean.

​I was surprised to learn just how many chemicals and toxins are used in household cleaner or even the spray that I was using to clean the mirrors and glass in my home. Sure it was helping to keep things disinfected, but what were the consequences to the health and well-being to myself and my well-being in the long term?

I didn't have the answers, but I knew I wanted to search for more natural solutions so that I could feel like I had done all I could to protect my family against harm, but still maintain a clean house. 

One of the most effective essential oils I use in my own home and encourage others to consider purchasing is Lemon Essential Oil. There are endless uses for Lemon Essential Oil, and one of the most widely used in my own home is for cleaning.

This article will share two of my favourite ways to use Lemon EO for cleaning. I hope this article gives you the encouragement and confidence to consider using more natural products in your own home for the well-being of your whole family.

Kitchen Cleaner

Use this all natural cleaner on all the surfaces in your home that you want to naturally disinfect and leave a fresh natural aroma. No rubber gloves required!

​Ingredients
16 oz glass spray bottle
1/4 cup vinegar
2 cups water
10-30 drops essential oil of your choice
Optional: 1 tablespoon castille soap

Instructions
1. Add all ingredients to spray bottle.
2. Shake and your all purpose spray is ready.

Note: The spray bottle pictured is 8 oz, adjust recipe according to the size of your bottle.

Glass Cleaner

Use on all glass surfaces in your home for a streak free shine.

Ingredients
16 oz glass spray bottle
1/4 cup vinegar
2 cups water
10-30 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Instructions
1. Add all ingredients to spray bottle.
2. Shake and your all glass cleaner is ready to use.

​Essential Oil Labels

The labels I used for my spray bottles were found on Etsy. There are lots of choices out there for labels (including do-it-yourself with a blank white sticker and a permanent marker) but these labels are high quality and look great.

The labels from JMEssentialsCo are also easy to apply - follow the directions when you receive your labels for best results. I have not had any issues with mine and have been using the bottles daily for months!
