|Mindset is a psychological concept discovered and researched by Carol Dweck, a researcher and professor at Standford University, following decades of research on achievement and success.
So what does the concept of 'mindset' actually mean? Mindsetworks.com states:
"Mindset describes the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence."
In addition, Dr. Dweck discovered that there are two types of mindsets that an individual can have including a fixed or growth mindset. An individual can be in either mindset depending on the situation they find themselves in, or be on a spectrum in between these two mindsets.
Fixed Mindset In a fixed mindset, a person believes their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are fixed traits that cannot be changed. These individuals often spend their time documenting their intelligence or talents instead of cultivating their abilities. They also believe that talent alone creates success and does not require effort. According to Dr. Dweck, this belief is wrong. Growth Mindset In a growth mindset, a person believes that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work - being born with a brain or a certain talent are malleable. This viewpoint develops into a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. According to Dr. Dweck's research, almost all successful people have these qualities. Cultivating a growth mindset can create motivation and productivity in the individual that can lead to accomplishments in many different areas of their life, including education, business, and relationships.
