|Lately I have been wondering how I can become more of an advocate for every day sustainability practices in order to do my part to take care of our planet. I was taught early on by my parents that recycling is important and to take the time to rinse out recyclable materials and bring reusable bags when I shop. I also mostly take public transportation or walk to get around in my daily life, so being 'green' is very much already in my nature.
A kitchen product in particular that was causing feelings of guilt and frustration each day is plastic wrap.. the seemingly necessary way to wrap leftovers or vegetables, like a half of an avocado or onion. You can imagine my surprise to learn that there was a more sustainable way to wrap things in the kitchen, with reusable and recyclable food wraps made out of beeswax and other organic ingredients.
This article will focus on five benefits that can be achieved from using reusable food wraps, and I'm also super excited to share my own personal opinion from trying out Etee Reusable Food Wraps for myself. Continue reading to find out if these wraps might help you solve similar feelings of frustration in your own home and kitchen! Pleaste note: This is a collaborative article as I was sent these reusable food wraps to try out in my own home. All comments are my own. Before we jump into the benefits of using reusable food wraps, you might be wondering what they are and how they're used. So let's clear that up first!
Etee Reusable Food Wraps are 100% reusable, compostable, organic and toxin free. Simply warm them in your hands and wrap them around produce, bowls, sandwiches, nuts, snacks, cheese and cooked or smoked meats - virtually any perishable. The wraps stick to themselves and provide a clean and protective seal. After use, simply rinse in cold water - hot water will reduce the wax coating - and wash with an eco-friendly soap (avoid alcohol based soaps) and a soft sponge, just like you would a plate or bowl. Once clean you can either hang to dry or use a towel and re-use immediately. Sounds pretty awesome so far, right? Let's now explore some of the benefits of using these wraps to replace plastic alternatives. 1. Reusable food wraps are helping save the planet. Etee Reusable Food Wraps are made of natural beeswax and are 100% biodegradable. So by replacing one-time use plastic alternatives, reusable good wraps are a practical solution to the environmental problems that plastics are causing the planet. These new food wraps are 100% reusable, compostable, organic and toxin free. 2. Beeswax wraps are just as easy to use as plastic alternatives. Simply warm them in your hands and wrap them around produce, bowls, sandwiches, nuts, and pretty much any perishable item. The wraps stick to themselves and provide a clean and protective seal. 3. You get a LOT of use out of each wrap. On average, each sheet should get about 120 - 150 uses, but it ultimately depends on how often and how intensively and for what purpose you use them. Some people will get a year out of them - especially when used as bowl toppers - while others who use them up on a daily basis may get closer to 5 to 6 months of use. 4. You're supporting local employment. Many companies that are producing environmentally sustainable products are locally made. These wraps are handmade in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 5. Your fruits and veggies can stay fresher for longer! There is a general idea that plastic "seals in freshness", but this is only true to a point. Have you ever stored your veggies in a plastic bag, only to pull them out of the fridge a few days later and find that they are mushy and inedible (yuck)? That's because many fruits and vegetables have a hormone in them known as ethylene and this hormone can release a gas that causes fruits and vegetables to prematurely rot. Plastic can trap ethylene, which accelerates the rotting process. These wraps are naturally breathable, so the ethylene passes through without causing the same issue (yay!).

Final Thoughts After using these food wraps for a few days and trying them out on different types of material and products (ceramic, glass, and bamboo bowls, produce, dry goods) I am officially in love with this product. It's super easy to use and clean/store, it smells amazing (just like I imagine honeycomb would smell). Most importantly, it makes me feel like I've made a small change in my daily life that can help out our environment. I also really like the attention to detail in terms of the packaging that my wraps came in. The envelope and card inside are both eco-natural and recyclable, which means everything that was sent is helping to reduce waste. It makes me feel as though this company is really taking the importance of taking care of the planet to heart. If you are looking for an alternative to plastic wrap, I absolutely recommend checking out how Etee Reusable Food Wraps can become a part of your every day life. We can all do our part to help out the Earth, and this is an example of an easy and sustainable change we can all make in our daily lives.

What a great concept. I’m trying so hard to reduce or reuse our plastics we have in our lives. I will have to do a bit more research on these due to our family‘s allergies if they are safe.

I believe they have a vegan option if that helps, but also their customer service is very fast so you could send them a message with your allergy needs and see if it suits your family.
