|How many stories have you heard people share of their wedding day being an absolute disaster? Or the days leading up their special day being some of the most stressful in their entire lives. A wedding day is an experience of two people coming together in union to celebrate spending the rest of their lives together. This day should be beyond special, memorable, and above all else, stress free. If you are starting to plan, or are already in the planning stages of dreaming up your big day, consider the following strategies that can help you to lower your stress while maximizing and enjoying your wedding day, so that you can look back on photos and memories of that day and smile (rather than cry). Hire a Wedding Planner You may be the most organized person on the planet, yet the task of planning a wedding can be a monumental operation with many moving parts. Why not hire an expert who can walk you through the process, give you tips based on their past experience, and help to make your day as seamless and enjoyable as possible? A wedding planner can provide full-service custom wedding planning or day-of coordination, depending on your needs. Having a guide by your side can help you enjoy what matters the most on your special day, rather than worrying about the details. Choose Your Venue Early The location of your wedding is a big deal. Not only will this be the backdrop for your photos, but it will also dictate how many guests you can accommodate and if there is a back up location if a rain shower happens. Choosing your wedding venue early can ensure that you are not disappointed with the location of your big day. Additionally, when choosing a venue, you want to consider how close it is to accommodations for guests to stay, and if the location is accessible to transportation. Another option is to travel to a different location than your current locale or hometown. You may have family overseas or just want a wedding in a special or exotic location. A destination wedding can also include your honeymoon, which is a fantastic way to continue celebrating and relaxing after your special day together. Plan Together Often times in relationships, one partner will be a planner and the other will have minimal input or just be happy to just go along with their organized partner. This may work well, however if both people in a relationship put in the energy and effort to plan a wedding, not only will the wedding more so reflect both of your unique and individual styles, the planning will be more fun and less stress with two minds rather than one. Also be wary of the input from others, whether it be family or friends. They mean well, but this day is yours to plan, so make decisions for the both of you, rather than trying to keep others happy (you will never please everyone!). Choose a Reputable Photographer The next best thing to memories of your wedding day, are the photos. Whether they are print or digital, these will last a lifetime and be a reminder of your day together. When choosing a photographer, consider checking reviews, their previous work, and also the connection you have with them. Often times, couples have engagement photos prior to their wedding day. This can be a good way getting to know your photographers style and energy and if you feel there is a click there, book them for your wedding day. You will be looking back on these photos for decades to come, so choosing the right photographer is key. Breathe Lastly, there is rarely a day of this Earth when something, even something small, doesn't go wrong. There are bound to be things that don't line up or go sideways on your wedding day. Accepting this inevitability and deciding how to handle it (or delegate to others) is key in reducing the stress you feel on your wedding day. Take a moment, find a quiet place, breathe, and remind yourself what is most important on your wedding day - usually it's not the little things that go awry, but the memories and the feeling you have when you finally say 'I do' and start your life together with your significant other.
