|Since receiving a few samples of essential oils for the first time earlier this year, I have learned a lot about what makes up an essential oil, how they can be used and turned into many do-it-yourself household items, and I have also seen first hand the health and wellness benefits that accompanies using essential oils in my daily life. I quickly knew that I wanted to share my excitement about essential oils and educate others on their benefits with others and became a Wellness Advocate for doTERRA Essential Oils. Before signing up, I did my research and found that doTERRA strives to, not only on producing quality products, but also focuses on improving the lives of the communities that source the natural elements that go into every essential oil bottle. This post will be dedicated to answering some of the questions that you may have about getting started with essential oils, the sourcing and production of doTERRA's products, as well as what it means to have a Wellness Advocate by your side helping to connect you with the essential oils that will suit your well-being needs the most. If you are brand new to essential oils, I invite you to watch this video first: FAQQ1 | What is a doTERRA Essential Oil and how is this brand different from other brands of essential oils? A1 | doTERRA Essential Oils are naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. There are over 3,000 varieties of volatile aromatic compounds that have been identified to date. The nature of an essential oil varies from plant to plant, within botanical families, and from species to species. The delicate ratio of aromatic constituents found in any given essential oil are what make it unique and give it specific benefits. doTERRA Essential Oils are carefully and thoroughly tested using the strict CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®) quality protocol. Experienced essential oil users will immediately recognize the superior quality standard for naturally safe, purely effective therapeutic-grade doTERRA essential oils. Other brands of essential oils may not go through such testing or be pure in consistency. Q2 | How can essential oils be used? A2 | There are three methods of using essential oils including aromatic, topical, and internal. One or multiple application methods can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends. Examples of using essential oils aromatically:
Examples of using essential oils topically:
Examples of using essential oils internally:
Q3 | Are doTERRA Essential Oils safe to use? A3 | Yes! doTERRA Essential Oils are completely safe when used appropriately*. Always read the label for specific safety information or consult a doctor or health care professional before using essential oils. For more information about using essential oils safely click here. Q4 | Where are doTERRA Essential Oils sourced and how are they produced? A4 | doTERRA is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to doTERRA’s oil production. doTERRA sources its oils from over 40 countries —more than half of which could be considered developing countries. To ensure that small scale farmers and harvesters in disadvantaged areas are treated ethically, doTERRA has introduced an initiative called Co-Impact Sourcing. Co-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas. doTERRA is committed to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. Growers and harvesters are encouraged to form cooperative groups to share collective benefits and bargaining power while improving skills and capacity. Q5 | Is doTERRA connected to any charitable efforts? A5 | Absolutely! The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation seeks to bring healing and hope to the world, for lives free of disease and poverty, and to ultimately empower impoverished communities with the tools needed to become self-reliant. doTERRA, meaning “gift of the Earth”, shares this gift with communities in need throughout the world. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation was created in June 2012 as an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The foundation is one of the ways doTERRA reaches out and serves communities in need. They do this by partnering with organizations and doTERRA Wellness Advocates to offer hope to millions around the world. Q6 | How can I get started with doTERRA Essential Oils? You answered some questions I had on my mind for a while. Thank you, I had opportunity to try out Doterra oils (Lemon, Peppermint and Lavander) and blends (for heartburn) that were very effective. Can these oils be used on a baby skin as well ?

I'm so glad to hear that you have been able to try out essential oils already, Lily. That's a good question about using EO's with infants. I would recommend visiting this link and speaking with a doctor before applying essential oils to infants or children: https://www.doterra.com/US/en/blog/science-safety-physiology-essential-oils-kids

This is so well organized and explained. I love my Doterra EO's - I mostly use them in DIY cleaning recipes and some diffusing (typically lavender) but love learning more about them!
